• Support the community by creating a variety of health-improvement activities.
Our mission is to provide a community wellness center committed to integrative healing. We help people find the alternative healing and health building practices they need for a whole, healthy and happy life.
DHA History & Future
Decatur Healing Arts, founded in 2004, was the dream child of Corinne Chaves and Jude Hasken. They longed to have a space in which to teach and share as they continued to pursue their passions in the study and practice of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Yoga.
Corinne is a certified massage therapist and wanted to offer the basic elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to the Decatur Community. TCM consists of Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, dietary therapy, and tui na massage. It also includes the health promoting aspects of qigong and tai chi.
Jude and Corinne began studying with Master Yun Xiang Tseng (Chen) just a few weeks before DHA opened. Corinne began to take more courses with Master Chen. In 2008, she completed her training in External Qi Healing techniques. She decided she wanted to deepen her studies by going with Master Chen to China and then to Colorado to be involved first hand in his teachings.
Jude wanted to continue teaching Tai Chi, but was not interested in running the business of Decatur Healing Arts……… this is where I came into the picture. When their first three attempts to find a buyer fell through, Corinne said she was told in a dream to ask me and if that didn’t work she would have to close the doors.
I had come to Decatur Healing Arts in 2006 after being diagnosed with breast cancer and found here the support I was seeking to help me through Chemotherapy. I found that and more. Starting with massage and hypnotherapy (then offered by Joie Taylor). I soon moved on to learn Qi Gong and Tai Chi and to study when possible with Master Chen as well. Decatur Healing Arts had come to be an oasis of health peace and well being. The thought of it closing was unacceptable, so I found a way.
I have been finding a way since June of 2008 to keep the doors open and even to open them wider. Our goal is to stabilize and grow this small business and expand it into a Community Cooperative Wellness Center that is mutually owned and operated by a group of Alternative Practioners and Teachers. We will build on the base that we currently have and create a beautiful and accessible place where all can come to find whatever they need for their health and well-being.
I am looking for investors who are led by their heart, who have a passion and a love for what we do and want to be a part of that.
