Orthopedic Massage Therapy is a multidisciplinary approach to relieving muscular and soft tissue pain, dysfunction, and injuries. This approach was pioneered and taught by internationally renowned teacher and lecturer of Orthopedic Massage, James Waslaski. A multidisciplinary approach is far more powerful than one technique or form of treatment. Three types of therapeutic methods are used: mechanical, reflex and energy-based therapies. The overall goal is to create and enhance for you a real sense of physical ease, freedom from pain, and accomplish full range of motion.
What happens in an Orthopedic Massage session?
Each client is assessed to determine the specific concerns that need to be addressed. As such, an individualized approach is taken – whether it is adjusting the structural balance of the entire body or focusing on a specific clinical condition.
The therapeutic methods applied during a session include:
The mechanical method is based on Core Myofascial Release, the stretching of connective tissue and muscle fibers to create space through deep work.
The reflex method is Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT), developed by Dr. Steven Kaufman, DC, LAc. PNT involves gentle tissue manipulation to “turn off” nerve-based reflexes that perpetuate trigger points and muscle pain, and is proving to be particularly fast and effective in treating chronic pain conditions.
The energy-based therapies are a combination of Quantum Touch, Reiki, and Alchemy practices. These are applied throughout the session with the client often noticing a reduction or elimination of pain, and sometimes an induced altered state-of-awareness.
